Carrie holds a Ph.D in Psychology, a Master of Education in Counselling, and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology. She is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, is a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and is a Fellow of Thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counselling.
Carrie's career spans 25 years and includes her work as a psychotherapist, university educator, researcher, author, and speaker. Her education, training, and scholarly work is grounded in contemporary theory, research findings, and evidence-based practice.
Carrie's integrated approach to counselling and psychotherapy is guided by a humanistic, insight-oriented framework that creates opportunities for meaningful change. She establishes an interactive and dynamic alliance that helps those in individual therapy and couples therapy recognize longstanding relational patterns, the ways they seek or avoid connection, and their capacity to effect change. Experiences such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, grief, loss, and other life transitions can be addressed individually or as a couple.
Those in couples therapy often benefit from guidance and support to learn better ways of communicating, resolving conflict, expressing their needs, or addressing differences in parenting style or work/life balance. Life transitions, losses, and grief can also affect the relationship in ways that can be isolating for one or both people. Pain, hurt, grief, and anger can then create barriers and disruption in the couple's bond and often the family as a whole, making it hard to find a way through. You are welcome to contact Carrie for a free 15 min consultation to discuss your goals for building a more meaningful connection.
The therapeutic process is unique for each person and finding the right fit is essential when seeking counselling and psychotherapy. Meeting weekly or bi-weekly is often helpful to establish trust and address concerns in a timely manner. You are welcome to contact Carrie for a free 15 minute consultation to discuss your goals.
Carrie has extensive education, training, and competence in the areas of anxiety and depression, grief and loss, interpersonal dynamics, as well the effects of traumatic experiences. She utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Flash Technique, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. These approaches are used alongside her substantial knowledge of attachment theory, traumatic experiences, emotional regulation, grief and loss theory, and somatic responses. Creative modalities such as writing, poetry, collage, or photography may also be used throughout the therapeutic process for those who are interested.
OHIP does not cover fees for psychotherapy. Services are paid by clients who may then submit a claim with their health insurance provider. Receipts are issued for tax purposes.
